Dale's comments where:- I wonder, is this really that much of a problem? But it is never a problem until someone accidentally discovers it while standing around static, or attempting a track stand or similar.
This is an old age subject which has arisen over the years between cyclists the world over and it is no surprise its with us again. Dale is perfectly correct in what he says and its surprising this problem still causes concern by some folk who are seeking other peoples opinions . No matter whether the bikes are old or new it depends on the orignal specification where its certain to found on any shorter wheelbase frame. I had a Hills Special in the 1950's and I still ride a 1980's Bob Jackson both having a overlap . I have never found it to be a problem or to be unsafe when riding and I've never known it to cause anybody harm so to those who worry about any mishaps can be assured there is nothing to fear , the problem really does'nt exsist .
Happy riding ,take care and watch out for those potholes!
