The early Deore bottom bracket apropos their touring triple with DynaDrive pedals would use a 121.5 mm spindle, Shimano part number BB-DE30 (...marked 68 T 121.5). Even beyond its obvious longer width, this spindle is decidedly different than that used with a Deore double ring crankset, and in fact, has more in common with the bizarre Shimano 600EX triple. This would be a Maxy type cotterless axle with threaded nut type ends having a 2 degree square taper similar to a vintage Stronglight or TA, which also means that those Deore cranks would likely NOT be usable with a more typical square tapered spindle as it would prove too narrow and/or short. Check page 3-16 of the 8/85 revised version of Sutherland's third for exact dimensions (...or contact me off-list for a digital copy of same should you not have that particular edition).
