Subject: [CR]Pic of the Day - Martano Rejoins Vietto

Never one to hold back an emotional display, René Vietto (right) signals his frustration at having been rejoined by Giuseppe Martano (left) at the foot of La Turbie, the third of three climbs in the Alps on stage 11 of the 1934 Tour de France. Vietto had already been first to the top of the Braus, and the "hors categorie" Catillon, and would go on to beat Martano to the top of La Turbie. Vietto also won at the stage finish in Cannes; Martano was given the same time, while Vietto's teammate and Yellow Jersey wearer Antonin Magne finished 3'23" down, reducing his G.C. lead on Martano to just 2'05". Magne's lead would hover at around 3 minutes until stage 17, from Luchon to Tarbes, where Magne won the stage while Martano lost 13 minutes. Magne would increase his lead again in the stage 21B time trial, and would finish in Paris with a comfortable 27'31" lead on second-place Martano.
