It's nothing new. There have always been old bikes that have been "hot-rodded", much to the chagrin of those who hold these sacred in their original configuration. Just consider all the Model T and '32 Fords that were cut up to make hotrods. To me, a 70-year-old Schwinn criuser type bike is just a piece of heavy scrap iron, but it's gold to those who collect them.
