Mike, Four chainwheels might have been the standard instead of 10 rear sprockets if someone had made a derailleur to handle the spread. I don't necessarily think this would have taken off when introduced as triple chainwheel bikes were not very common at the time. No front derailleur I know of would shift the width well and never carry the range that is listed. Also the rear changer would be working overtime

wrapping chain if the cluster was not small.

Still very very cool.

I outed the Craigslist offering of, I believe, the same frameset back on September 18. Description is virtually a duplicate. The seller was located in Paradise, CA, north of Sacramento by a fair piece -- something not quite discernable in the eBay listing. Asking price was about 800 dollars. All this is in the archives, of course.

There is a very rare Claud Butler Twin Tube (Saxon) on UK eBay at the moment. This frame is a 1956 model with the All-Rounder Bilaminations. I am positive that they only made the bilaminated model for this one year 1956. All previous CB TT Saxons were plain welded (lugless) 1952 through to 55. The colour scheme is not my cup of tea but a very rare and interesting frame indeed. Don't let this colour your judgement! http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/SAXON-TWIN-TUBE- FRAMESET_W0QQitemZ200041390188QQihZ010QQcategoryZ56197QQssPageNameZWDVWQ

Eric, Yes, I'd probably say it is. A little goes a long way. It has a sort of

soapy feel with a grit that doesn't scratch chrome. I've used some pretty intensive chemicals over the years, and this is one that I comfortably can use without gloves and yet it really does the job. Non-flammable and no appreciable odor, either. Back when we both used it and sold it in the shop I don't recall it being particularly expensive, compared to some of the Schwinn bike care

products. But again, it goes a long way. It is really amazing stuff. Just remember to replace the lid so it doesn't dry out. Regards, John Wilson Greensburg, PA USA

I am pretty sure a Quick-Glo equal is a product called Astonish. Have made good use of it for chrome and bare alloy. Have not used it on annodized stuff. Same drill, keep the lid on it, but it can be revived with water and work.

Brendan, I've used this on a lot of bikes. Cleans off surface rust very well

and I've used it on some chrome. Just have to be careful on how much you use on the chrome and for how long you leave it on. One thing, wear

I am wondering if this might ring a bell for someone.

On my early 60's Cinelli SC, I can see the residue of a decal/sticker

on the seat-tube that is probably a shop decal and possibly the shop that it

came from.

The shape is a shield with 3 peaks, the center one being higher. The height is 1 1/2" tall and 1 1/8" wide. It looks like the outside border was blue and I can see some red in the inside and that is about it.

I don't think that many shops were selling Cinelli in the early 60's,

KOPPS, Cupertino, Velo Sport, American Cyclery....??? Did any of them have a

shop decal that might have included the above?

The shape makes me think that I have seen it on a bike pictured on CR or Wool Jersey but I can't seem to find it.

Ring a bell for anyone? Early 60's, Cinelli, Shield shape, Blue outline, red field or type inside?

Thanks

Saxon were a famous British maker in their own right. Bill Bailey was a director there and he had very close links with another famous cyclist Leon Meredith who was a director at Constrictor. Both these were Ex World Champions. Saxon introduced the Twin Tube short wheel-base in about 1937. This differs from the one on e-Bay as the original Saxon has twin lateral tubes for a seat tube all the way down. The Butler only partially twin tubed. Saxon was absorbed by Claud Butler. Claud did build some original styled Saxon frames (circa 1951) but he was not impressed so they went for the partial twin lateral tubes. These started rolling out of the works in 1951 first as specials only (bespokes made to order). Claud had a very lucrative special building (one off's) business and in the early days Bill Grey and later Les Ephgrave made most of these. In 52 the Claud Saxon TT was listed off the peg in the catalogue. This was built for a three speed derailleur probably Simplex or Benelux back then. They carried on supplying these with three speed only until 1955 when you could get a 4 speed Benelux or Simplex as standard. Butler's folded in 1956 post Suez War. Recently I was lucky enough to meet a chap who was in the drawing office of Clauds. His boss was Stuart Purves. This gentleman had the task of drawing all the one off specials full size on cartridge paper for Les Ephgrave to build from. Les was then working by the billiard hall just down the road from the main works. Fascinating. Check with the seller to see what the rear end spacing is.

Wanted a pair of Son Lite High flange (large flange UK) hubs. I want to build a front wheel for tandem, tricycle and tandem tricycle use. But could do with a pair to make up a nice matching pair of wheels. Manufactured by Casal & Sons, Son-Lite was based in Huntington Beach, CA. These Turbo Hubs are also called Turbo 1`s. Will exchange for classic equipment or buy what ever you prefer. Please contact off list. Joe
