I would like to use my new (old) Duegi winter ankle-high riding shoes with my platform/clips/strap set up. Those at Yellow Jersey look nice, but $39.99? C'Mon!

If any of you have any leads, or perhaps an unused pair laying around, please let me know.

hi Matthew,

There were some nice slotted cleats from Shimano, which are probably as rare as hen's teeth. I can dig up a part number if you are interested.

My solution has been to modify some of the cleats that came with Shimano shoes. These are probably 10 years old; they had a shallow slot at the rear in addition to having the standard Look cleat shape. The idea must have been that cranky old farts like me could use them with our old pedals. Well, my LBS must have fitted better cleats to the shoes when people bought them, because the shop has (had?) a bunch of them available at $5/pair.

I just use a dremel tool to deepen the slot, and cut off the front half of the cleat (it tends to interfere with the pedal). It works fine for me. If you are interested, I can check with the LBS and see if they still have these.

So.. I have to ask, what shoes are you using these with?? Most shoes have velcro straps that are difficult to get past the toe strap. I've got some older basic Shimano shoes that are okay, but not great. Is there something better nowdays?

thanks,
