- if it's just one area, i'd be tempted to take the hubs off the rims and fix it with a brush chroming set and some fine (800-2000 grit) sandpapers. I fixed a 1/2" square area on the rear triangle of a raleigh and the fix is undetectable. Cost, $40 for chrome and sandpaper, which can be used for other projects (www.caswellplating.com).

- if you are into repainting frames yourself, boeshield T-9 is used to keep airplanes flying in all sorts of conditions. I stripped a badly rusted (~20% rust) carlton pro-am's rear triangle, then got sidetracked 3 months ago, so I sprayed it with Boeshield. treated it again after 40 days with boeshield T-9. still no rust. Amazing stuff.
