As far as I know, the Mavics were ISO taper...the 631 crank wanted a 114mm spindle generally. Same degree taper as JIS, but starts from a smaller size, so the mavic cranks won't engage as far as is ideal on a JIS bottom bracket. I've used a 631 crank with a shimano bb with no particular problems, about a 110 gives a pretty good chainline, but never with a superbe pro.
