Subject: [CR]Teledyne Titan Ride "Quality"

Having purchased one of the first runs of the Teledyne Titan frameset in 1974 (original price $422.00 including DuraAce headset), I can offer my personal experience on the ride "quality". Puts lots of miles on it, but for fear of frame breakage, I finally retired it. My primary concern was the huge amount of head tube flex when climbing and exerting out-of-the saddle pull on the bars ==== the head tube moved all over the place!!! Very scary to say the least. Recall that it offered a comfortable ride, but with plenty of BB flex. Not really that bad if spinning low gears, but put some pressure on the crank arms, and watch it move. Never owned a Vitus aluminum frame, but others have told me that this frame made the Teledyne feel stiff. Sometimes am tempted to buy a Titan out of sentimental reasons, but since I ride all of my bikes, owning one of these would most likely turn into a dust collector hanging in the basement. No disrespect meant to those who still own and ride these frames, as to each his or her own. Regards, Kevin Kruger - Grantville, PA
