I have a mid 1970's Alan Competition bicycle (which is the same as the super record, except has fewer braze-ons.) And, when sitting in a saddle and pedaling hard to go up a hill, I have watched the campy chainwheel carving a hole into the left chainstay.
I thought it was just the bike's way of saying, "hey Don, you're TOO FAT!" But now that you have found confirmation in a Bicycling Magazine article from the classic era (not to be confused with today's BUYCYCLING!), I can now comfortably take it out for more rides, guilt-free, geez thanx !!!
