What the English guy was referring to was "la chasse a la canette" the hunt for water. This was common practice on the pre 1970's Tours. They were not allowed to take bottles from support cars, hence they would grab water and drinks from anywhere which culminated in cafe raids etc. Tom Simpson possibly died from the same symptoms that Brit clubbers die from when they drop ecstasy a combination of dehydration and amphetamines. I have always wanted to read "Put Me Back On My Bike" which I am told is must read on this very sad episode in cycling history. Tom will always be my hero. Croeso Cymru Joe King Nr.
