Hilary Stone just sold a wonderful Youngs Grandini on
Ebay for a very reasonable price. Hilary suspected it
was made by Bill Philbrook. Every part of the frame
sure looked it to me, except perhaps for the rear
frame ends. Hilary, or anyone else, were these rear
frame ends and the finsish of the stays they mounted
in typical of Philbrook's approach to frame building?
I've only seen pictures of his custom dropouts, so I
can't make an informed judgment about how he brazed
and finished prefab frame ends, which was what those
looked like. Based on aesthetics, they don't seem
particularly his style, even though the rest of the
frame sure does. Regardless, who ever won the bidding
got a wonderful frame set. Just curious and a huge
admirer of Philbrook.
