Seeing these reminded me that I know very little about a near identical pair of my own Ambrosio alloy clincher rims, also sized 27". I had found my rims, long ago, laced to a pair of old 1960s Campy "NO-Record" alloy hubs laced with chrome plated 15/16 ga spokes.
Mine are beautifully welded single wall rims, still highly polished. What remains of the original labels is the word "Ambrosio" in red on a gold backgoound, superimposed over a burning torch.
I would guess that this is the same Italian company (Ambrosio SpA) still making rims today (although not often seen in the US) and perhaps the same company which had produced the beautiful alloy "Champion" stems as far back as the 1950s.
Does anyone know during what years this type of rim had been produced or popular?
And, was this in fact a useful alternative to separate pressed-in eyelets or just a means of recessing the nipple heads slightly within the rim?
