I remember getting the pipe-cleaner type of hub-shiners for my childrens bikes in England in the early 1980s and still have a couple of sets on two of my bikes, but I haven't seen them on sale for years!
I always liked hub-shiners and this pipe=cleaner type in particular, but now I have to make my own out of strips of leather joined with Chicago screws.

Over here they sell what looks like oversized pipe cleaners for the same reason. Beats polishing an unwaited hub shell by far. They are even available in national colors, ...
