Todays San Antonio Express News featured the grand opening of the new 12000 sq.ft.Bike World Shop on the affluent north side. It has an onsite cafe serving espresso, pastries and drinks, a meeting place for before and after rides, etc. It is the third Bike World Shop in our city.I know some of the folks at the old Broadway location and they are a nice group and quite enthused by the old steel I bring in to them to work on.The San Antonio Wheelmen boast 600 members. Quoted in the same article by the Bikes Belong Coalition is " the growing bike population has been the momentum for a host of new shops.----its a national trend. In 2003 the group said, there were 87 million bicyclists---more than the combined total of skiers, golfers and tennis players. That same year, the nearly $6 billion bike industry sold 18.5 million bikes in the United States, more than the total number of cars and trucks sold that year." If only 1% of these folks stick with cycling and discover classic steel (as happened in golf with antique equipment) our hobby will be unable to supply the demand from newly awakened "collectors". Sleep well ,my bretheren and sisteren! Art Link, looking on the bright side in San Antonio,TX,USA
