Dear CR listees, The Bikes For the World sale of many "on topic bicycles" that was scheduled for tonight, has been CANCELLED, due to theft of many of the bicycles. The sponsor of the sale Bikes for the World lost over ten bicycles to a break in at their warehouse. I have copied what the director put on the local Washington DC Craigslist. Sorry for any confusion, but I was just notified. If any one wants to DONATE ANY used bicycles to this group for a tax deduction, please contact them first. Life in the big city! The Bikes for the World BIKE SALE has been cancelled. Sorry for the late notice. It seems that someone has figured out how to get into our warehouse and has made off with a few bikes. We speeded up our move-out and removed all remaining bikes to minimize the damage. We will shortly be putting out a notice regarding some of the missing bikes, asking the public to keep an eye out for them and help us recover them.
Thanks to the DC cycling community for its growing support. We have collected and donated more than 7,000 good bikes in 2006, providing people in receiving countries with an affordable tool to work more efficiently, attend school, and much more.
Again, if you have a surplus bike sitting around, please consider donating it to Bikes for the World, a sponsored project of the Washington Area Bicyclist Association. All donations are "tax deductible to the extent permitted by law." For further info, visit http://www.bikesfortheworld.org
