I remember in about 1976 (?) when the Stetinas came to East Lansing and raced on Dale Hugh's tiny portable board track that was set up in the hockey rink at Dem Hall for months (so it seemed). They had a 6-Day there, I'm pretty sure. My bro has a photo of the racing around somewhere. I swear I remember dernies blasting around that thing, stinky. My younger bro dared to ride it. I might've given it a lame, slow wipe-out style try. He caught the race bug a year before me and that coincided with that track. I think it might've been something like a 90-meter track. It had CRAZY steep angles and it flexed! I think the straights were like 30 degrees and the banks WAY steeper. I wouldn't be surprised if there hasn't been a smaller one used for real racing. Uh, maybe this was even gear restricted and of course numbers of riders restricted. I suppose that somehow bleachers were set up to look inside it. You got inside thru a door in the track surface. I assumed that track would always be in our lives but then the darn thing disappeared...forever! No one really knows what became of it. I vaguely recall that Dale says it was stored in a semi-trailer at the Dorais velodrome which was then stolen...probably used for firewood.
