I once screwed a pair of Looks into some late 70s Shimano 600EX cranks (the so called "arabesque" model. The bike was full French threaded, but since the pedals started in okay and were clearly not cross threaded, I just greased things up and got a big wrench. No issues, but the pedals were tough to get back off ;^)

The truth is, I think a lot of French cranks got "tapped" just by someone who didn't know the difference forcing an English pedal into them. If they were lucky enough to do this without crossthreading them, it often worked out OK.
