This has been discussed to a painful death on the rec.bicycles.tech newsgroup. Jobst Brandt, who says these are among the best rims made, and is singularly responsible for them costing $150 a pair on eBay, claims that they were never anodized, just lacquered. Obviously, they have some kind of surface finish, often shiny. I'd be willing to believe that it isn't anodization--there certainly are plenty of metal-finishing treatments in the world--but I really don't think they're lacquered.

Anyway, I have a few sets of these rims that I'm saving to fund my retirement. Not for sale. Yet.
