I've just had a slice of humble pie for tea!

Thanks Joe for pointing out my dreadful error about Doug Smith's 1954 12-hour time.

Reading your contri at first I couldn't quite make out the point you were making because it appeared to state what I thought I had already alluded to..the fact that Doug must not have been far short of the Comp Record with such a huge mileage.

So..I went back to my Outlook Express" "Sent" file, reread the relevant email and noted with horror that I had omitted the all important word "NOT". My sentence should have read"..you must NOT have been far short of..."

Thanks Joe ..and apologies Doug...I was quite in awe of such an accomplishment..for me 240 miles 18 hours would have been quite some going as I never was a "distance tester"

As for Ron Kiching..I don't know what his best distance was, but he loved to relate tales of locking up his business, jumping on the bike..or sometimes the tandem with May, his wife, and riding through the night, to participate in a time-trial the next morning.

Norris Lockley...I must learn to proof-read, I must learn to proof-read, I must learnt to foorp dear..Settle UK
