I used to work with an Irish guy who raced in Ireland as a teenager, probably in the late '70s-early '80s.

He and his buddies didn't like the look of bells on their racing machines, so they would mount the bells under the left chainstay, satisfying the letter, if not the spirit of the law. There was no way to actually ring the bell in this position, but that was not required.
