It's difficult to say as it's going to depend a great deal on what was used to make the waterslide decals originally. Many are pigmented ink with a lacquer base. The lacquer base will dissolve in most paint solvents. There are also many types of clear coats.

The only trick I've done with these is to spray some very light coats on the decal area to seal the decals up some. The thicker the coat, the more time the solvents have to attack the decal. After a few thin coats (that have been allowed to flash off), you can spray a wet coat overall.

If there happens to be an extra decal in the set that you're not going to use, do some tests on that first.

Dear members Last week I visited my paintshop to have an early 80's De Rosa resprayed. I have a factory original set of waterslide decals. However they don't have experience with waterslide decals. They are afraid the decals will be destroyed when they use clair paint. Who can give me advice what type of varnish to use ? Your help will be greatly appreciated. Kind regards,
