Subject: [CR]Old Track Bike Questions

I dug this OLD (50's maybe?) track bike out of the attic. It was originally chrome (or nickel) plated, but was rusted enough to be "ugly" so it was sandblasted and painted back around 1970. I am not sure how bad the chrome was/is.

See some initial pictures at: http://home.comcast.net/~staehpj1/TrackBike/ I will take better detail shots as soon as I get a chance.

I am trying to find out what I have here. I was originally looking for a beater to hang new-ish parts on and ride, but don't want to screw this bike up any further if it is rare or valuable. I now suspect that maybe it deserves to be kept as "period correct" as possible.

The BB says "British Made". I do not have the other markings at the moment but will get them if it helps identify this bike.

I did not notice any markings other than on the BB. There is no sign of a head badge and if there were decals they are long gone.

I am inclined to take it apart and see how the parts clean up with oxalic acid. Is that a safe bet or should I hold off?

As a newbie to vintage bikes I am open to any comments or suggestions.

Pete Staehling
