Yes, I know this sounds stupid, but I've never bought or applied one to a bike. It seems that there must be a flange at the top of all shims - to prevent them from slipping right down into the frame... correct?

However, if this is true, would this not just stick up very obviously and unattractively above the highest peaks of a seat lug?

I do have a shim factory fitted to a lower level 70s Peugeot, But on this bike the seat lug is simply cut straight across the top, and the flange seats perfectly and near invisibly at the top. But what about bikes with nicer, more ornately shaped, sealug clusters?
