Don, I think I understand where you are coming from with this, but if you want to build a Super Record bike today, why not just use Super Record? With the parts you listed, it doesn't sound like it is intended to be a show bike. You don't have to spend a fortune to get the older Campagnolo parts in great condition. Just take a gander at some of the recent ebay auctions and note that there are bikes with excellent complete groups selling for the $500-800 range--you can then sell the frame if that isn't against your value set. I've sold several bikes in the past couple of months that had complete Super Record groups that had less than 500 miles on them and none would have broken the bank once the frame was taken out of the equation. Now, if this is just an early winter thought project, then I've missed your intent in posting it. Lou Deeter, Orlando FL

Hi,

Plenty of steel frames are being made, but the supply of classic parts is finite and therefore declining. The only way to build new KOF bikes in the future will be to patronize NOS suppliers and KOF parts makers (defined as making clones of period parts, either in-period, or today.) I have noticed that it seems like there are fewer spare parts outlets for "classic styles" since several large retailers have recently merged.

What is available today in current production that can be used - either for spare high-quality parts or for "visual clones" - to build a circa 1980 "campy super record-clone bicycle" ?

Here's a draft list. Please respond via email with additions, subtractions, and/or corrections, and I'll summarize on friday.
