Subject: [CR]Re: Christmas, and Classic French Components Prices Falling

I'd actually disagree with the notion that French parts prices are much higher than where they had been. I'd say prices are fairly level relative to where they had been a number of years ago. In fact, there is now significant US demand for many cool french goodies whereas years ago there was nearly none - but Ebay has drawn out quite a bit of stuff that otherwise was wasting away in storage and put some downward pressure on prices.

What was tough for me when I was in the business was that there was so much whining and complaining about prices - folks thought I was making it up that the Japanese where so hot for certain items and were willing to pay seemingly crazy prices. Finally with the ebay world folks could see in the daylight what the dealers including myself knew was going on for quite some time. Of course, at least one dealer (you know who you are) loved the idea of buying at low prices from an uninformed public and selling at the high rate to overseas buyers. In fact, that dealer later complained to me that I "outed" the fact that the stuff was worth so much. Well - now with ebay we all see what stuff sells for in an auction environment.

Stealing from a famous Winston Churchill line with modification - Captitalism is the worst of all possible economic systems, except for all the rest.

Have a great holiday - and if you can, trade on the list and put smiles on eachothers faces.
