I'm with Chuck. $10,000 is a pittance for one of Eddy's actual bikes. Unlike most on the list I'm not a huge fan of Merckx, BUT I'd have no problem maxing out a couple credit cards for an actual bike with real provenance that was a race winner. I'm a serious cheap skate when it comes to bikes. I hunt and find deals that I'm almost ashamed of talking about. But I don't have a problem seeing the value in a truly unique item. When I lived in Seattle I used to go into Il Vecchio about once a month to see Eddy's hour record bike and other pro race bikes George collected or had on loan. It's really too bad George was always a jerk to me so maybe I'd have information and pics of the bikes from his collection to share.

Sorry, I got a little off the subject there. Anyway one of Eddy's actual bikes is damn, DAMN rare and would be the zenith of just about any collection. We spend a lot of time talking about how rare a Confente bike is but in reality Mario built in his short life many more bikes than Eddy will ever ride. Scarcity is one of the main components of price and to be honest I've never heard of one of Eddy's bikes ever open for public sale. I've heard of a few selling privately but never an open public sale. Anyone ever seen one in a public sale? best, Brandon"monkeyman"Ives Vancouver, B.C.
