That was my first thought, the temperture. I use olive oil for deep frying
because I believe it has the highest heat resistance of all cooking oils. I
wonder how that would work as a cutting oil?

Could that be made from olive oil? What else would Italians use?
If I recall, the best machining lubricants were made from whale oil, which is now illegal. I wonderr if there's any NOS around?
