Probably blasphemy to some, but if you have that old, rare track bike that you aren't riding just because you don't have a brake and don't want to drill the fork to attach one, it is quite easy to find a fork with similar rake that is already drilled and it takes less than 10 minutes to change a fork, including the time it takes to attach the brake cable! You just need an extra headset race and voila, you're on the road, safely. And, if the fixed gear part scares your pants off in the hilly area, just get a single speed freewheel, not the same experience, but you'll enjoy the bike nonetheless. Adapt, innovate, ride, enjoy.
