When seeking out instruction in framebuilding, it certainly is helpful to look at the quality of the teacher's work, and Doug's work is some of the finest I've seen. But even more important is the teaching ability of the instructor... many artists who are quite able to communicate thru their art are not nearly as good at verbally communicating the concepts and processes of their medium, or perhaps they aren't so good at relating to people on a personal level. As an artist I know from personal experience that many of us got into art in the first place because we're such introverts... nerdy types who turned to drawing or painting or music because we were just too shy to talk to people comfortably.
But this is where Doug really shines... he's outgoing and friendly. He is intelligent and articulate, able to communicate complex subjects clearly. He's patient and encouraging... he has an incredibly positive outlook that makes him a great teacher, able to instill confidence in even the most nervous student. Whether he's dealing with the adults in his framebuilding class or the children in his Sunday School class, Doug's a sympathetic and warm individual who is a joy to be around. This is the best reason of all to take his class.
