Don't know much about the guy with the funny gear but it is a great picture of Diot who went on to win the 1951 Paris-Brest-Paris. 1200km in under 39 hours, the all-time record. I guess that is Antonin Magne on Diot's shorts. Tour winner 1934. Very much old school, no doubt a fan of a long wheelbase. Maybe that was what worked for Diot in P-B-P. Magne was the D.S. of the Mercier team in Poulidor's time. The team jerseys don't have a zip. Apparently Magne saved 100 old francs a jersey! Ray Green, Brighton, England.
