Peter,

Thank you for letting us know of Zay's passing. Her son Bobby called me just after I read your post and said the services would be held at the Evans Funeral Chapel, 8800 Harford Rd., Parkville, Md 21234 on Wed. at 11:00am. There will be a gathering after the services at a local restaurant not yet named. I will be headed up to Baltimore very early tomorrow morning to celebrate Zay's life. In Oct. '04 I went to the Baltimore retro ride and met up with Bobby and we went over for a visit with his mom. There was one good photo of Zay and Bobby http://pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/rauler83/album?.dir=8e0c&.src=ph&store=&prodid=&.done=http%3a//pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/rauler83/my_photos

Zay, your son, friends and the cycling community will miss you,

It is with great sadness to share with you that Bobby Phillips' mom, Zay Phillips, died last night of a massive heart attack following a stroke the day before. Zay was 84 years old. For those of you who never met Zay, she was a great supporter of and competitor in cycling, esp. in the Mid Atlantic for most of her life. Zay was a 14 time Maryland State Champion, and for several years, she was a nationally-ranked track racer. Zay still made it out to a number of MABRA races this year to cheer on her son, Bobby Phillips, and his friends and teammates on Snow Valley. I will miss her bright smile and hearing her many stories of racing on the roads and the boards, back in the 1940s, 50s and 60s. Funeral arrangements have yet to be finalized, but Bobby confirmed services will be held at Evans Funeral Home in Parkville, MD sometime this week. I'll let you know the time and day when that's confirmed.
