I'm pretty naive on this topic. Can anyone say if wooden rims were ever generally used in road riding with rim brakes? I picture them in my mind's eye more on no-brake track bikes and rod/spoon/tire brakes in the distant past.

Hey, there's an idea ... maybe you could spec a spoon brake to save your rims. ;)
