Both steel bars are for sprinting. The "short flats" have most likely been cut down at some point so as not to wack ya in the kneecaps when jumping down the banking. The Ron Kitching catalogue calls the no.14 Pista and the no.18 Madison. This would explain the straighter top on the no.18 that John mentions as it would provide a better hand hold on the tops during a madison change. Ray Green, Brighton, England
