This 48-year-old didn't reply to Duncan's poll. And judging from the results, there was no need. I detest being the "median" anything. An appalling conformist, boring state of affairs.

So what conclusion do I draw from this? That we mostly collect, covet an d critique precisely the bicycles we lusted over (and maybe even bought and rode) when we were about 17 years old. Which is why it's much healthier and nicer to do with bicycles and not people. Otherwise we'd be hanging arou nd high school playgrounds.

As long as we keep in mind we are all a bunch of over-aged teenagers, we can keep all of this in true perspective.
