Adventure Cyclist magazine has an interesting article this month on the history of the touring bicycle written by Jan Heine. It is rare that this publication explores such a topic from an historical perspective but it was well written and of interest to those "ibobs" & "Phreds" as well. The March edition kicks off the touring season and Jan also offers a buyers guide to low end, mid and high end touring bikes. The article shows a photo of a 1985 Alex Singer with a full contingent of Berthoud panniers and bags. They look great until the first rain storm. The magazine is available only through membership in Adventure Cycling Association. A few bike shops that cater to the touring crowd carry the magazine.
