I hope this doesn't seem like quibbling but I'd say the Weyless and American Classic posts are very different designs. Weyless had one bolt in front and one in back; see pic: http://www.classicrendezvous.com/USA/Weyless/Weyless_s-post.htm What you can't see in this pic is the rear bolt, but the post is symmetrical - rear bolt looks just like the visible front bolt

And here's the Am-Classic: http://www.bikepro.com/products/seatposts/amclas-post.html Note both bolts are on the back, and the design is very asymmetrical.

Note to the original poster John S - you really must try to get some Arnold Industries alloy crank bolts. They're American, superlight, and gold anodized, three of your desiderata. AI also made alloy stem-fixing bolts for TTT stems (the one that pulls the cone up) and alloy seatpost pinch bolts for the seat lug. The latter two only came in black, iirc. Don't know if the stem bolt would fit your preferred Mavic stem but it would be trés cool if it did. Takes the slightly-odd 7mm allen wrench I believe. (Well, 7 is, technically speaking, odd. It ain't even!)

I believe the Scott Superbrake has been mentioned already - I think of it as more a late-80s thing, don't know if they were available in '81, but they were seriously well made, excellent brakes. Don Pardo has a good picture of them on his web page of bike part failures, http://pardo.net/bike/pic/fail-002/000.html (scroll way down) but he doesn't explain why they are there - I see nothing failed about them. I think the pictures and editorial comment are actually from Jobst Brandt.

And here's some more pics, off the 'bay (ended auction): http://bulgier.net/pics/bike/Parts/Brakes/ScottSuperbrake1.jpg http://bulgier.net/pics/bike/Parts/Brakes/ScottSuperbrake2.jpg
