Sounds like you want an old pair of Duiegi's.

Since you are in Charlotte,NC you might check with Al at the Bicycle Gallery. He might have an old pair laying around.

BTW The Duiegi wooden soles I know of used clips. Usually a leather sole was used for nailed on cleats. But I've been wrong a lot in my life. This may be another time.
