I hate to see these sorts of things happen as I know and like both of these guys...
My guess, admittedly without a thorough investigation, is that we once again have a "Failure to communicate". Neither of these guys entered this attempted transaction with the intent of cheating anyone. It's a shame it turned ugly...
It sounds like this deal turned sour over a decal on the fork blades. A critical aesthetic glitch in one person's view, to the other fellow it was a harmless "extra" that ended up scuttling the whole deal and creating unbelieveable bad will. How sad.
I have had my own unpleasant experiences with paint jobs that were not exactly what the customer envisioned, yet once done, are extremely expensive to rectify. It turns the dealings into a lose-lose situation. I don't miss doing paint & frame repair work through cycles de ORO for just that reason.
The only way to avoid these dilemmas is to describe in painfully minute and anal rententive detail, on both sides, any and all cosmetic expectations, forthcoming costs, etc. And even then, one small detail over looked can be a disaster. That's what we have witnessed here....
