Sorry about that..I must have pressed a button that I shouldn't have touched.. and off went the unfinished email.
Well..as I was story-telling..Out of the bottom bracket came this greasy card with Georges Groussard's name written on it. Now in France, Georges Groussard is not as well known as Bernard Hinault, nor possibly his own brother Joseph, but it was Georges, the younger Groussard - he was 69 last week - who held the Maillot Jaune for ten days in the 1964 T-d-F..finally finishing in the 4th place (I think)
The frame, a very typical Sauvage-Lejeune, in it's red with light blue panelled livery, bore all the hallmarks of Bernard carre's workmanship, including the "B.CARRE" stamped on the sweeping plated top-eyes....Now Mr Frenchman is setting about proving the provenance of his treasure-trove find..and watch this space..it mind yet surface on Ebay
But not all Sauvage-Lejeune T-d-F frames had "B CARRE" stamped on their top-eyes..but there again that is another story...for another day.
