Personalities featured in the Cycling Rail Special (BT
Film).Sorry I never did give the names but they are
Reg Shaw who was instrumental and the main driving
force in organising the Rail Cyclist Specials. Reg
wrote many books on cycling and was editor of several
cycling magazines.
The lady pictured by the Claud Butler is Marion James
who was a former Past President of the Veteran Cycling
Club. She held office for several years. Marion was no
mean cyclists and tricyclist she was married to Len
James a famous member of the equally famous Bath Road
Club. Len was a very good cyclists and bicycle polo
player. He is a good link for bicycle polo:

There is an excellent British bicycle film called
"Spinning Wheels" which features amongst other goodies
a Bath Road 100 & a club run of theirs. One of their
famous motto's was "give me a good road and gay
companionship's" not a phrase used today but with the
release of Brokeback Mountain cowboys in chaps takes
on a whole new meaning as well. Just shows you how
language changes and develops.
My best schoolmate who cycled with me lots was
nicknamed "Gay". He was always smiling laughing and
happy and also wore gaily coloured Belgium team vest
Just can't imagine bumping into him in a Stevenage
New-town pub today and shouting out whatcha Gay!
Finally if you can get your mitts on a copy of
"Spinning Wheels" watch out for the Bath Road 100
sequence, all the riders in black but you can just
make out the tiny club colour flashes they wore, this
I mentioned briefly in an earlier CR posting.
Best wishes Mick Butler.
Thats all for now. Keep those wheels spinning, in your memories if not still on the road. Be lucky Mick Butler Huntingdon UK.
