I gotta say I see nothing wrong with the vast majority of the bike riding public (guys for the most part) wanting "race" bikes. Given enough years, if they keep riding, they will arrive at exactly what sort of bike they "need." If they don't keep riding, what diff does it make in the end anyway? Try convincing someone that they don't need what they want sometime. And by the way, some of these guys actually _can_ use the same performance advantage as the serious racers because they are damn serious about their riding.
I also see nothing wrong with guys buying "sports" cars, but that's just me.
