Yes, except, often if a region is known to be painted, just below the crown for example, the prep work prior to plating will be minimal if at all, so even if you polish the newly exposed region there may not be an attractive result. Excess brass, file marks and other surprises often lurk below. Also, an anode may not have been placed under the crown so the plating can be challenged there as well, "internal" features like that do not get the current that promotes a happy layer of plating.
