I've heard similar stories, and I don't know if there is truth to them. I have heard a different twist on this -- that other companies were sometimes contracted to make parts for Campagnolo. I don't know if there is truth to that either. What I do know for sure is that while the Miche (and Ofmega, and Avocet, and Gipiemme) brand hubs were visual knockoffs of the Campy hubs, they were most definitely NOT made by Campagnolo, as the bearing surfaces in the cones and races were not nearly as durable.
