I was assigned the rather unpleasant task of going through a deceased members cycling collection, a job I hate as I can't get the picture of them out of my head whilst sorting through their stuff, knowing you are never going to see or ride with them again, horrible. Whilst doing this unpleasant duty I found a real gem recently, this was the Official Route Card & Handicap for the Kingsdale Open 50 on June 19th. 1920 plus the result sheet. Talk about a blast from the past they are all racing Dave Marsh, Maurice Selbach, Charlie Davey. Sandy Holdsworth, Jack Rossiter, the Stott brothers, Frank Armond etc. A. Whinnett a Bath Roader won in 2 17 27 H'cap Time. Fatsest actual time was A.R.Woods Unity 2 25 38. Team prize went to the Unity and Century Road Club second. The event headquarters was The White Hart Shefford still there today. Makes a change our pubs are now shutting at the rate of 40 a week nationwide. Finally there were 120 starters listed of which 16 DNS and 31DNF so its not a modern problem either. M.Selbach 2 30 53 scratch. Dave Marsh 2 28 38 scratch. Sandy Holdsworth 2 32 48. All actual times.
