The answer, if available, is going to depend on the size and model. Schwinn was conservative and tended toward heavier tubing, but I sus pect they used lighter tubing on the small frames. They certainly used some straight guage cro-moly on the big ones. Take a look at:

In 1977 the Xtra-lite catalog goes to a higher level of detail but not t o the extent of tubing guages so you need someone who was there to give you insight. Waterford probably knows, at least from repair experie nce, and you could always ask although they may not feel like giving o ut frame plans.

A surprise. Wienmann Carrera brakes could be had as an option in 1977 on some of the Paramounts.

An aside. One reason Scwinn was conservative about thin tubing was pro bably their excellent lifetime frame warranty. I wonder if anyone ever tried to collect for the bowed seat tube that was so prevalent on the l adies model? I was surprised to see a straight one last year, they a lmost all bowed a bit under use.
