Seriously great brakes, simple, light, effective and reliable.

Sheldon mentions correctly that the brake pads are the tandem style, but it's worth adding that the brakes are tandem style also.

Lots of people, myself included, have used these on singles, even prefer 'em to the smaller single bike version, but you sometimes run into a problem with how far these stick out, mainly in back on small frames - they can hit the riders legs. Sometimes (not often) panniers can impinge too, mostly on large frame sizes.

I think the smaller single-bike brakes were called "Criterium" - ring any bells for anyone? Starting in the late 70s I noticed the tandem size becoming popular for singles, especially a certain OT category. But before that, it seems to me that the smaller ones were more commonly seen - except for on tandems of course. My fave was to put tandem on the front and Criterium on the rear.

That one bolt that Sheldon mentions, ("One of the nuts is not a cosmetic match") appears to come from a Mafac centerpull. I don't see how it's going to tighten - the bolt is too long, unless some sort of bushing is added. Maybe I'm not seeing it right, but I think you may need to get the proper canti part to make this work - luckily those are not rare. If a list member buys these brakes and can't find a bolt, contact me, I'm pretty sure I have one to spare, though it won't be NOS.
