Ty:

Welcome to the CR list.

BTW, please read the rules (again) as you did not sign off your message properly. http://www.classicrendezvous.com/CR_list_rules.htm (Boy I get tired of reminding newbies about that...)

That Gitane will be a bit of a challenge as it most likely is French or Metric threaded & dimensioned. I suggest that you find a bike shop that has been around a while and knows its stuff. They can quickly tell you the bb thread, the seat post diameter size, and find a chromed 1" threaded fork for cheap (Taiwan made though) They also can supply a cheap alloy or even chromed steel seat post. The BB will be another matter and also depends upon what cranks you intend to use. Maybe one of the speciality vintage parts suppliers can help there or eBay...Learn about what you are doing before buying stuff!!

Hi everybody. My name is Ty Rilleau and I love the classics. I am a third generation leather worker and have a solid appreciation for function and form, not necessarily in that order. I saw this Gitane frame on The Ebay and had to snatch it up. Primarily for the rear dropouts. My primary question is how I would find a suitable fork (60 cm frame). I don't care about anything but function, as price is starting to factor in. My second question is have I gotten over my head in terms of compatibility. Does anybody have any info on how to get a good bb, or the headset threading, or the (fill in the blank). I would love any info on the frame too. You help is greatly appreciated. Thanks, Ty
