Dear Aldo, I would like to say you were correct in your Hetchin's assumption and give the Hetchins lads something to shout about unfortunately victories on Hetchin's machines are very few and far between, if this were true they would be like puffed up peacocks. The answer is far simpler Toni Merkens was a British champion and because of this was entitled to wear the Union shoulder patches. All our British track championships were opens back then hence a German British champion. Toni Merkens and to some extent Albert richter were adored by the British public. Toni occasionally rode a Hetchins and a Claud Butler and both him and Albert rode a Selbach tandem. Very brave on both their parts to ride machines produced by Jewish firms at the height of Nazi regime. Yours fraternally Frank.
