Having just read Dale's post about having booted someone for making an off-topic post (about Paris Roubaix), despite a public warning only hours earlier, I would like to suggest the following:
ALWAYS read Dale Brown's posts, no matter what the subject line may be. If you see a post from oroboyz@aol.com, read it.
I have learned to always be on the lookout for Dale's posts. If I see the name oroboyz@aol.com on a message, I make sure to at least read the subject line. Also, if I fall behind in my CR reading to the extent that I can't catch up, before deleting all of the messages I can't get to, I scan for any from oroboyz@aol.com. That way I never miss his warnings about subjects that are off-topic. This practice may be particularly helpful for newer members and people who receive the list in digest form - it is very easy to miss some posts when scanning the summary at the beginning of the digest.
This suggestion may seem to many of us as so basic and obvious that it shouldn't even have to be mentioned, but as today's booting apparently shows, some people do not realize how important it is to read Dale's posts (at least if you care to stay on the list).
Anyway, reading all of Dale's posts isn't that bad. They are always clear and concise, and often interesting and informative :)
